An Unexpected Start

The lesson in all of this is simple, really. Even if your day starts off with a pile of barf, it can still be amazing. You just clean it up. Move on. And make the most of your day!

Last night I went to bed excited for the next day.

I was planning to meet my girlfriend for a long run bright and early. We’ve been on alternating vacation schedules this summer and we hadn’t run together in about a month. I miss our girl talks as the miles fly by. So I was looking forward to my 6:30am alarm.

And I had planned to take my oldest daughter back to school shopping downtown in the afternoon. Once you turn 16, there aren’t many days you’re excited to hang with mom for an afternoon. Unless you’re at Urban Outfitters getting clothes bought for you. Whatever. I will soak up the time however I can.

And then tonight I am heading to a girlfriend’s birthday party (somehow we are celebrating 50th birthday parties now!). I love a good night of fun with favorite girlfriends and it’s a theme party! Who doesn’t love a theme party?? I say this seriously. I love any reason to dress up.

So I woke up with a spring in my step. Excited for the day ahead.

I enjoyed my cup of coffee, some peanut butter toast and got ready for my run while hanging with my early bird youngest.

As I was just about to leave the house, I went into my office to grab something.

And….YUCK!

There lied a big pile of dog barf. Right on my beautiful newish rug.

Side note. I love my new office. I spent careful time decorating it as part of our remodel. I wanted an oasis where I could work, write, and think. If I want me time, this is one of my favorite spots.

Oh now….yuck, yuck, yuck!

I do not like cleaning up barf. Particularly barf that looked like it had been there for a bit overnight. Oh ewwwww……

But it was on my new rug!!! Why can’t our dog barf on the plentiful options of hardwood flooring in my house? It would be so much easier to clean up. Thankfully this doesn’t happen often. Usually after she has eaten something she shouldn’t.

Ugh. So I cleaned it up. Scrubbed my rug. Gave her some love pets because clearly her tummy does not feel awesome.

And then I went for my run. Enjoyed an even longer run than planned with my girlfriend while we chatted away through the beautiful Washington arboretum. Followed by a successful shopping trip with treasured daughter time. And now, I’m enjoying a latte before I start getting ready for night out.

The same barfing dog, who shadows me while I am home, sits behind me sleeping soundly.

The lesson in all of this is simple, really. Even if your day starts off with a pile of barf, it can still be amazing. You just clean it up. Move on. And make the most of your day!
